I recently took a road trip from my home near Pasadena California to the San Mateo County region of the San Francisco Bay area with one overarching goal, use my beloved Corolla Cross Over as little as possible while exploring Redwood City, Palo Alto, and Burlingame while walking, using the Caltrain Rail Line, drinking coffee and people watching (while drinking coffee and watching trains go by)
My Highway 101 Road trip route began by traveling eastward through the San Fernando Valley via the 210, 118, and 101. First coffee stop was a very attractive Starbucks off of the 101 in Ventura. It was a pleasant cool and cloudy morning, typical of the California coast, and many fellow cafe imbibers were enjoying their coffee on the outdoors wood planked patio.

I continued on the 101 and arrived at my Hotel--GoodNite Inn in Redwood City, about five hours after leaving the Starbucks pitstop. I reserved the room at very reasonable rate from Priceline and received a $50 discount off of the advertised just by calling Priceline and asking for a better price! 1st tip from a new travel blogger.
If you're looking for affordable lodging, I suggest the Good Nite Inn. The room and bathroom were spotless.
The hotel features a delightful pool area, and for those interested in midcentury history, the motel was initially constructed as a Howard Johnson's motel. While it's no longer in its original orange and blue color scheme, you can still see the distinct sloped roof of the lobby entrance.

On the left is a depiction of a standard Howard Johnson motel entrance from half a century ago. Below is an image of the Good Nite Inn, with a glimpse of the inviting pool area, too.

Coming soon. Spending the morning in Redwood City without a car!
